Upon arrival at the hotel we were pleasantly greeted and served a delicious fruit punch. It looked as if this was going to be a great family vacation. We checked in with no problems, and were told that since we were there for 5 days, we would be able to make 2 dinner reservations at the available restaurants. We went to a desk to make dinner reservations, and were told that ALL of the restaurants were completely booked for our entire stay. I could hardly believe my ears....COMPLETELY BOOKED! How could this be???? Once we were told this disappointing news, they went on with business as usual, and tried to sell us different excursion packages, and they tried to sell us a membership to the Royal Club on the property. They told us that is how we could get dinner reservations. I was outraged to say the least. I told the worker at the front desk that their packages offered online were misleading. My husband even asked to speak to the manager, and his response to us was to contact Travel Website. They did not try to make ammends. We will not be repeat guests, and I will spread to word to any future travelers....Do not go...It's not all that it's promised to be!

Well this was our 3rd trip here, we noticed all the bad reviews and were worried the place had started having troubles, evidently they have not. We had the best service we had ever had, the fun club staff was great, the food was better than usual. the few problems we had were taken care of quickly. following the advice of the staff we went into town one day to a small restaurant, "Las delicious" it was AMAZING and cheap. worth the adventure to go there, ask Ruben at the front desk.

  • very, very nice

Highly recommend extra $$ for Royal Club . . . it made all the differnce. Room was small, but service, separate pool & restaurant more than made up for it. Employees couldn't be nicer. Kinda missed a real beach, but the lagoon & being able to walk right in & snorkle made up for it. Pescadore restaurant quite good, do not recommen Sonora Grill. The royal club restaurant was tops & the view fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

When we first arrived, we were greeted and given something to drink. I asked about our free one day pass to Xcaret park that was advertised on web (where we booked our reservation) and the front desk personnel stated that we did not have any included passes. That was the first promise that was broken. We were shown to our room— we were told was a junior suite. As we entered the room, the room was very dark. It featured a stove and a large sitting area. Since the room was dark, we wanted to change rooms. We were then given another room which we were told was one of the best rooms in the place. As we entered the room, right away we noticed the room was smaller than the previous room. The balcony door lock was broken and the toilet was broken. There were ants marching on my reservation papers. A maintenance man came and fixed the two problems after several call to the front desk I proceeded to call as I was not satisfied with the second room and I wanted to leave the hotel. I stayed on the phone for approximately 120 minutes (at 99 cents per minute) in order to rectify the situation and was told that there would be a two day penalty for canceling. the rep. from web agreed with me that was not a standard known in the hotel industry and was working with another rep., a supervisor from web to rectify the situation so we could leave the very next day. I did not contact the front desk myself at all. The next day, I was greeted by the concierge, who asked us what the problem was. He was very amicable and professional. He advised us to speak with another manager and she would be able to assist us. we went to speak with her. she was trying to understand the situation. She explained to us that the first suite that we were shown was a junior executive suite used for hotel employees. She stated that we are currently in a junior suite. She also advised us that there has been a change in policy as far as the free-one day pass to Xcaret. This change in policy had to do with the change in ownership of the park. She stated she gets several people every day that have the same expectations. As I got off the phone and sat down in front of the athor manager, the front desk manager comes by in a hurry and said something in Spanish to athor manager very quickly and walked away (not even introducing himself). Why am I writing this? To state the facts. This has been my experience here. We were not rude to anyone in the hotel. We had a certain expectation—a free one day pass to Xcaret, a junior suite room (which we now realize is what we have), and a two night penalty if we wanted to leave the hotel. We ended up LEAVING the hotel after a day and half of TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE in the middle of our vacations and went to another resort .

I wish I didn't have to give this hotel such a bad review because it does have some good points. However, the bad far outweighs the good. Pros: Very nice pool, good food, some staff were nice, the park next door is awesome. Cons: Starting the moment we arrived, there were hotel staff perched outside our room waiting to trap us into going to some breakfast/ sales pitch. I had to getnasty with them on multiple occasions to get them to back off. There were three of them assigned to my building and everytime we came or went we were uncomfortable, trying not to make eye contact lest we be pounced on again. The waitstaff at the a la cart restaurants, also rude, poor service. The food was good, but on two of the three nights we ate at one of their a la cart restaurants we did not recieve one of the courses. One evening we were eating on the deck at the seafood restaurant and it was very windy. We couldn't keep our menus on the table, and then a plate flew off the table and accross the deck. We asked to be reseated and the host was a complete jerk about it. We went on a trip one day and got back after the towel exchange had closed. We needed to leave before it opened the next day. We called the front desk and they said to come by in the morning and they would get us new towels. When we did so, the front desk guy was very rude and refused to help my husband. Beds - hard with scratchy sheets. Don't go, it isn't worth the hassle.
