We stayed at the Moongate Hotel in Dec 2008. I found the hotel on line. Never being in Mexico before I just went by the pictures and details. The hotel was not exactly what I thought. It was a small place with no frills. The shower was claustrophobic. But everything was nice and clean. Air condition worked great. TV good. Beds fine. A little table to sit at. Nearby bars to hang out and listen to music in the evening. The location is really great. It is a very safe area. 5 minute walk to the water. Nice shops nearby. Lots of restaurants. Easy to get a taxi if you want to go anywhere. Marco, the entertainment , customer service man, was very nice and helpful. He set us up for a 4 wheel drive trip thru the jungle, which was lots of fun and we went swimming in the caves. I think it is a good place to spend a quiet, peaceful time. It has a small pool with nice place to sit, but the jacuzzi didnt work well, and was very cool. Pool not heated. So we skipped that and just walked down to the beach and rented a chair for $* and got our tan on. Good hotel.

We booked this hotel for a 4 night stay thru an online travel website and when we arrived Nov 15 in the eve after a very long day of travel the manager told us they were over sold. He said they had 3 hotels they owned and he would gladly book us at another 6 blocks away and throw in a all inclusive package for food and drinks. We were both very hungry and fatigued, plus the manager insured us the other hotel was nice, so we accepted without seeing the other hotel. Its hard to check out rooms that are 6 blocks away! When we finally arrive at the other hotel it was very dark and the room resembled a prison cel. The shower had used soap in it, there was no air conditioning that worked and the covers were stained. We quickly checked out and went and paid for and other facility. When we went back to the Moongate the next morning, the manager said there was nothing he could do since we didn't like his other hotel and we had accepted the all inclusive agreement the night before. This is definately a bait and switch. I would never stay with the Moongate or their sister hotels again! Mark M. Superior, Colorodo

El Tucan is surrounded by trees and folliage giving one a feeling of being in a tropical oasis. The grounds were well maintained and the staff were always available to assist with our needs. The activities director, Marco was friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was great and folded the towels into swans, birds and other shapes every day. The friendly staff were always close-by and we felt safe no matter what time we returned to the hotel. The pool was surrounded by palm trees and had a sunny side as well as a shaded side. At peak times, it can be hard to get a lounge chair. The location was great as it was a quick 10 minute walk to the beach and the shopping on 5th Ave. starts the minute you leave the hotel.
