My wife and I just return this week from a great vacation of five days. The hotel, staff and drinks were fantastic. We stayed on the Riviera side (newer side) of the hotel, yes it was a five minute walk to the beach, but the shuttle carts ran with some frequency about every ten minutes. We ate at two of the a-la-carte restaurants and both were good (not great, but good) the best buffet was the Grand Buffet. We had booked a King-pool view room and the first room they gave us a double queen on the "jungle" side. They quickly corrected the room and moved us to the king-pool view that was booked. I would not of known any difference if they had not put us in the other room first, but the king-pool view room was definitely a better room...marble floors vs carpet. STAY AWAY from the time share reps. When checking in they will bring you a drink and after that they want to sit down too try and get you to meet them in the morning for a 90 minute tour. I had already knew of this tactic from reading other reviews and politely declined. We booked and used Olympus Tours through Travel online for the airport transfers. They were very professional and fast, in fact we booked our excursions through them at the hotel, we were so pleased with the company. The airline was TACA airline, again a get airline. They fly Airbus & Bombardier planes, seats and leg room were plenty...they don't squeeze you in like other airlines... No luggage charge, food was served (on both segments) and alcohol was free, all of this in coach class. Overall this was a great vacation and we will stay here again, but for a longer period.

The only complaint we had was we only spent 5 days here. We have been to this part of Mexico 4 times and this was the best experience we had. The hotel is immaculate and very well kept up. The staff bent over backwards and assisted in every area of service you could ask for. The pool facilities also were well kept up and with 3 large pools there were always plenty of chairs available and space in the pool. The back pool at the extreme rear of the property was the quietest of the 3 pools. The main pool was great and had all the activities you would expect with a resort and its staff, it was also a short walk to the beach and bars. The back pool did have a bar and a swim up bar which was well attended and well serviced. The beach is as you would imagine, soft, white and cool sand that stretched for miles uninterrupted, you could walk into Playa Del Carmen if you chose on the beach. The staff was always there to help and accomodate, the food was very good at the buffets except the Italian Buffet which was very average. I would return to this hotel on my next trip which isnt soon enough and will be longer. I have spent a lot of time throughout the world and I can say this staff and resort held its own. It is a resort attended by a lot of Europeans and smoking was prevelant everywhere, except the restaurants, but the only people making the most noise were our fellow Americans. 5 stars in all categories, book it and enjoy-stay longer then 5 days.

If you are looking for beautiful beach....this is the place. I have been to many properties over the years in this area, and must say that the water at Sandos would probably warrant a second booking. We found the food to be good...the service to be fine, and the room quite comfortable. No- it's not the fanciest place I've ever been, but for the price, I would not hesitate to go back. Lots of children, so if you just can't abide the kiddos, then book elsewhere. We simply walked out on the beach everyday- turned right, and found our perfect "quite" spot. The kids seem to stay mainly on the "whales" or water breaks. We stayed in the Riveria portion of the hotel, which some people hate because of the walk, but my husband and I loved the walk, as the grounds are really pretty and the walk it good exercise! If it's great water and sand, with good food and a comfortable room for a very low price, then Sandos is a good place to book- ....If you're looking for the 4-Seasons experience, then better book somewhere else! The most important thing to remember when on vacation is "YOU ARE ON VACATION"...so don't sweat the SMALL STUFF!
